Welcome back! We're flying at about half-staff here, but that doesn't stop us from bringing you an interview with director Frank Woodward. Frank's company, Wyrd Films has produced the documentary Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown, a film that details who Mr. Lovecraft was and why his work has inspired and terrified so many people. By the way, you can now view the film online on SnagFilms.com (here) or through Netflix (here). Here he talks with Matt Staggs about the making of the film and Lovecraft himself. Tell me more about Wyrd Films... Want to know more about Wyrd Films? Why not check out their website: http://WyrdStuff.com. Thus far, their offerings look decidedly genre-based; and we're perfectly okay with that. Once there, you can find information on the Lovecraft documentary, but also on the following projects:
  • Men in Suits (currently in production): a documentary about the actors behind (or inside, as it were) the foam, rubber, and metal suits of old monster and science fiction films.
  • The Splat Pack, which the site describes as: "Wyrd’s look back at the first decade of 21st Century horror films and the filmmakers who re-energized the genre. "
Wyrd Films is active on Twitter to! Find them at: @WyrdStuff. Hey, nice book! Cthulhu2000If you've never read Lovecraft before, but want to give him a shot, why not start with the book we've featured in this post? It's called Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror and the Macabre: The Best of H. P. Lovecraft and it collects some of the best H. P. Lovecraft stories to be found. But if you're looking for something a little different, then in the spirit of the Wyrd Films documentary, why not check out some more contemporary authors tackling Lovecraft's mythos? To do that, why not find a copy of Cthulhu 2000? In this book "a host of horror and fantasy's top authors captures the spirit of supreme supernatural storyteller H. P. Lovecraft--with eighteen chilling contemporary tales that would have made the master proud."
